Just the Way It Is
That’s how it’s always been done.
That’s how we do it here.
That’s just the way it is.
Have you ever heard these phrases and bristled?
Have you heard or read or seen something and it creates a little fissure in your reality? A tiny crack that opens up your mind to the thought that life doesn’t have to be this way?
Maybe you’re in a comfortable routine but there’s a nagging feeling in the back of your mind that something doesn’t quite fit anymore. It’s easy to get caught up in the day-to-day, to follow the path that’s laid out for you. Whether it’s the next step in your career, the way you’ve always done things at home, or the expectations others have set, you find yourself noticing that it’s not necessarily working for you. You’re fairly certain your life could be better if it were different.
Going against the grain is hard. It’s easy to keep doing things the way you’ve always done them because it’s familiar. Changing the way you are in the world can make other people upset. It can cause ripple effects in your life. But when you start to ask yourself tough questions like "Is this really all there is?" or "What if there’s a different way?", you open yourself up to what’s possible.
It’s so easy to get swept along by external expectations or the momentum of life, never taking the time to question whether it’s leading us to where we actually want to go. When was the last time you stopped to ask yourself if the path you're on is one that truly works for you? Change begins the moment you pause and ask, "Is this what I really want?".
This reflection is the first step in identifying what’s not working in our lives, whether it’s a job, a relationship, or even just how we spend our time. The answers often lead to a deeper understanding of who we are and what we really want. And in that understanding, we can begin to break free from the limitations we’ve placed on ourselves.
But questioning isn’t just about identifying what’s not working. It’s about being willing to ask, what could be better? What would it look like if we stopped living by the rules we’ve inherited and started creating a life that feels more aligned with our true selves? What if you could rewrite the script and start fresh, embracing the possibility of something new?
That’s the power of challenging what you’ve accepted as “normal”. It’s being brave enough to think outside the box and decide there’s a different way to live, a different way to work, a different way to be in the world.
If you’re feeling stuck, restless, or just unsure, examining the status quo can help you find clarity. It can push you to evaluate where you are and whether it’s time for something new. And sometimes, just asking is enough to spark the change you’ve been craving.
So, if you find yourself asking, “Is this all there is?”, consider it an invitation to reflect. Ask yourself what you want your life to look like, what you want to feel, and what’s truly important to you. Don’t be afraid to explore everything. You might just find the key to unlocking a life that feels more aligned, more fulfilling, and more true to who you are.
If you’re ready to dive deeper into that self-reflection and explore what your next step could be, I invite you to schedule a discovery call. Let’s talk about where you are right now and how you can start moving toward a life that feels more like your own.
